Key Features of alloy 625 (ASTM B446)

Outstanding Corrosion Resistance

alloy 625 provides superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and impingement corrosion. It is virtually immune to chloride ion stress-corrosion cracking, making it ideal for sea water applications.

High Strength & Toughness

The addition of Molybdenum and Niobium acts to stiffen the alloy matrix, providing high tensile, creep, and rupture strength without the need for strengthening heat treatments.

Extreme Temperature Range

Maintains its strength and oxidation resistance in a wide temperature range, from cryogenic temperatures up to 1800°F (982°C). Suitable for jet engine exhausts and flare stacks.

Excellent Fabricability

alloy 625 possesses high fatigue strength and fatigue resistance to chloride ions. It also has good weldability and can be fabricated into complex components.

alloy 625 FAQ

Grade 1 (Annealed) is typically supplied for service temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C) where tensile properties are critical. Grade 2 (Solution Annealed) is heat-treated at temperatures above 2000°F (1093°C) to maximize creep-rupture strength for service above 1100°F.

The high strength of alloy 625 is derived primarily from the stiffening effect of Molybdenum and Niobium on its Nickel-Chromium matrix. It does not require precipitation hardening heat treatments to achieve its strength.

No, alloy 625 is a non-magnetic nickel-based superalloy, making it suitable for applications requiring low magnetic permeability.
