Its primary industrial use is handling Hydrochloric Acid (HCl), Sulfuric Acid (H₂SO₄), and Phosphoric Acid, especially in high concentrations and elevated temperatures.
N12MV has a wider composition range for Molybdenum (26.0-30.0%) and higher Carbon content (0.12% max) compared to N7M (30.0-33.0% Mo, 0.07% max C). The N12MV grade is considered the more traditional Hastelloy B casting grade, while N7M is a modified version for even greater non-oxidizing acid performance and thermal stability.
The Iron (Fe) content is restricted to 4.0-6.0% (balance) to maintain the alloy's primary corrosion resistance. Hastelloy B alloys are extremely sensitive to oxidizing impurities.
