DIPTIINOX® ER347 TIG Rod (AWS A5.9): Leading Niobium Stabilized Manufacturer & Exporter for High-Temperature Service

Dipti Metal Industries is a Leading ER347 TIG Rod Manufacturer and Niobium-Stabilized Welding Wire ER347 TIG Rod Exporter in Mumbai, India, specializing in high-performance AWS A5.9 ER347 GTAW filler metal under the DIPTIINOX® brand. The key characteristic of this grade is the addition of Niobium (Nb), which acts as a stabilizing element. Niobium preferentially binds with carbon, preventing the formation of harmful Chromium carbides in the weld metal's grain boundaries. This makes the weld highly resistant to intergranular corrosion (weld decay) when exposed to sustained service temperatures between 750°F and 1500°F (400°C to 815°C). ER347 is the standard choice for welding AISI 347 and 321 base metals and is widely used in power generation and petrochemical applications. We guarantee full conformance to AWS A5.9 and ASME SFA A5.9 for all critical industrial applications globally.

DIPTIINOX® ER347: Niobium-Stabilized for High-Temperature Corrosion Protection

The AWS A5.9 ER347 Filler Metal is a Chromium-Nickel-Niobium (Columbium) austenitic stainless steel alloy designed to solve the problem of intergranular corrosion (or sensitization) when the weldment is exposed to temperatures ranging from 750°F to 1500°F (400°C to 815°C). In this temperature range, non-stabilized alloys (like 304) suffer from carbon migrating to the grain boundaries and reacting with Chromium, leading to a loss of corrosion resistance. The presence of Niobium (Nb) in the ER347 filler metal, at a minimum of ten times the carbon content, chemically locks the carbon and prevents the depletion of Chromium. This makes ER347 the best choice for welding stabilized stainless steels AISI 347 and AISI 321, especially in critical components like steam lines, turbine casings, and boiler tubes where high-heat service is standard and intergranular attack must be prevented.

ER347 TIG Rod & Wire — Frequently Asked Questions

Niobium (also called Columbium) is a stabilizing element. Its primary function is to chemically **'lock up' the carbon** in the alloy by forming Niobium carbides instead of Chromium carbides. This prevents Chromium depletion along grain boundaries, thereby ensuring the weld metal is resistant to **intergranular corrosion (sensitization)** when used at high service temperatures (**above 750°F / 400°C**).

ER347 TIG Rod is specifically recommended for welding the stabilized stainless steel grades **AISI 347 and AISI 321**. It is also an excellent choice for welding straight Chromium-Nickel steels (like 304/304L) that will be placed in service environments where exposure to temperatures between **750°F and 1500°F (400°C to 815°C)** is anticipated.

ER347 can be used as an alternative to ER308L for general-purpose welding of 304/304L, especially if the fabricated part will experience **high-temperature service**. It should generally **not** replace ER316L if the application requires Molybdenum for improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments, as ER347 has very little Mo.

Yes, the weld deposit offers excellent mechanical properties at room temperature, with typical tensile strength around 88,000 psi and good ductility (42% elongation), making it suitable for high-pressure and structural applications in addition to its high-temperature corrosion resistance.
